The tumbling stones are small, round, brightly polished rocks and mineral fragments. They are made by placing rough rocks in a machine called a rock rolling machine, which rolls it until its edges and surface are smooth and polished.

The driveways and sidewalks of the cobblestone pavers require little maintenance. Just wash them once or twice a year, and then remove all the weeds growing on the joints. The well-built cobblestone paver driveway can remain stable and run normally for up to 100 years, and when it fails, it is usually because the foundation fails, not because the stone itself will wear out or crack.

Cobblestone paving combined with mortar is more prone to problems, especially in cold climates where frost/thaw cycles can cause cracks to break. Regular inspection and regrouting can keep the surface in good condition.

In terms of style, cobblestone paving is most suitable for houses with old-fashioned architectural styles, which are similar to houses in areas and historical periods where cobblestone is the main paving material. For example, the English Tudor or Colonial Farmhouse house style is a reasonable place to be paved with pebbles, especially when natural stone is used in the construction of the house itself. The original pebbles are terrazzo collected from the riverbed. Therefore, the more round the stones, the more they roll over, the more realistic the paving device will be.

Installing a cobblestone paver driveway is laborious, but does not necessarily require special skills or heavy machinery. If you are not in a hurry and do not mind the challenge, then DIY installation is a viable option. However, this is a time-consuming project, especially when you are working on your own. Although it is possible to build a shorter sidewalk in one weekend or two working days, for large projects that require excavation (such as driveways), it is expected that the work will take at least one to two weeks. If you cannot work full-time, then It will take longer.

Like other forms of concrete and brick pavers, pebbles can be placed in a mortar or dried. The exact installation method may vary, depending on the type of stone you are using, but usually, you first lay the paving area with a guide rope and then dig down 7 to 10 inches (depending on the size of the stone). The bottom of the excavation is flattened, and then a four to a six-inch layer of compactable gravel is spread out and compacted with a power tamping machine or heavy-duty roller. On top of this, pour, spread, and compact two inches of sand.
