How Are Granite Slabs Made?

Jan 08, 2021

Before your shiny new countertop becomes your home, many processes are required in the production of granite countertops. We give you a quick overview of some of the different steps you need to go through to turn a granite slab into a countertop. It all starts with a stone cut out of the surface of the rock, and then a few layers of sand and sandpaper on top.

The granite is polished to a uniform thickness by a polishing machine and then cut into slabs, which are then used to make bathroom and kitchen countertops. In some quarries, large granite blocks are extracted from the quarry, drilled, blasted and broken down into larger blocks. The blocks are delivered to the plant, which cuts the stone from the granite and transports it by truck to another saw, where a blade up to 11 feet in diameter is cut. At the same time, the granite must be cut from a slab with a band saw and the block transported to its destination by truck.

The cut is final and it is impossible to reattach the piece of granite cut from the slab, so the cut "must be reapplied.

If you decide to install a granite worktop, choose the one for your home and have the opportunity to preview the entire natural stone slab. When installing granite or marble countertops, it is important to be aware of the natural movement of a slab. The quality is the same as for granite slabs, but only comes from the stone already cut, not from the granite itself. So when you choose a granite slab, you get a cut, and the quality of that cut is important when you lay it.

The lustre of a marble or granite slab is a property of the stone itself and not the product of the addition of chemicals. The man-made granite has almost no defects, whereas natural granite should have a surface that is rough but not so rough that it is easily visible. When the surface is rougher and the reflected light gives a perfect reflection, the marble and granite slabs begin to blunt. To maintain the shine of your marble / granite countertop, you can grind the stones down to a level of about 3 mm per square inch.

The sheen and lustre of a marble or granite slab is similar to a mirror, so the slab must be perfectly flat to reflect the sheen. By cutting large granite blocks into large slabs, you can polish the surface to highlight the natural colors and patterns and smooth them out. The truth is that marble and granite countertops are so polished that they look so shiny and, of course, less shiny when found on earth.

The mineral variation, fullness and variation give the granite the numerous colours and structures that can be seen on granite countertops. There are many dramatic colours of the granite slabs, corresponding to many of their colours, such as red, white, blue, yellow, green, orange, black, red - and - white and even blue - green.

In most cases, individual granite tops are perfect for kitchens that have unusual worktop requirements and sizes. Granite slabs are preferred because they can be made with individual edges, while prefabricated buildings are usually equipped with standard bullnose edges and prefabricated houses today offer more edges than prefabricated buildings.

You can also choose from various shapes of granite kitchen backsplash to go on your granite countertops. Granite is usually the cheapest countertop, although the price of granite may vary depending on the granite you choose.

For example, a granite slab in an exquisite colour scheme, which is unique only in its kind, is more inexpensive than a quartz slab. Many granite types are even cheaper than technical stone or quartz slabs, and some granite types are competitive in price with quartz. For example, an exquisite granite slab or an extremely high-quality granite worktop is more than twice as expensive as a stone slab - a technical slab of the same type.

If a seller shows you granite that costs less than $50 per square meter, don't try to sell it to him or her - the price of the granite offered by the entrepreneur is so low that it is too good to be true. Less reputable contractors sell artworks - granite countertops, and some of them sell for as little as $10,000.

There can be many levels of quality with prefabricated granite, but man-stone-granite is at the top of the list of worktop materials. The old saying "you get what you pay for" applies less to the installation of granite countertops than to prefabricated granite.

The minerals quartz and feldspar make up 70-85% of all countertops and are extremely hard. Granite is a combination of two mineral types: quartzite and man-stone-granite or man-stone.
