How to choose stone carving tools
Oct 01, 2020
Engraving stone is a long and arduous process, which involves many tools. Each tool has its own different functions. In the later stage of stone carving, the tools used later should be used to remove the traces of the tools used earlier. The shape, size and hardness of the stone determine the tools you need to use. There are many carving tools on the market. Try a variety of different tools and engraving methods, and you will find out what is right for you.
Step 1
Choose a saw blade suitable for the type of stone. The role of the saw blade is to remove the excess part of the stone.
Step 2
Choose the axe-chisel tool with a hammer. The role of the axe-chisel tool is to preliminarily outline the outline of the stone. The purpose of this step is to cut off large pieces of rock. The heavier the stone, the heavier the hammer. Most of the hammers used for stone carving are made of 2-4 pounds of steel.
Step 3
Add several chisels. Please note that flat chisel and tooth chisel are of different sizes. Each has different functions, so give it a try and find the chisel that best suits your technique, design, and original shape and size of the rock.
Step 4
Try various grades of polishing pads and grinding heads.
Step 5
When engraving, choose a hand-held toolbox with chisel, polishing pad and grinding head in the box. Electric tools, angle grinders, electric grinders, and pneumatic tools such as pneumatic hammers or chisels are also needed. Granite is the hardest stone and requires heavy tools.
